Justicia District

Justicia has become Madrid’s SoHo: a vibrant, spirited, forward-thinking, innovative and entertaining area with a boho-chic vibe and a casual atmosphere.

It contains the neighborhoods of Chueca and Salesas. Justicia district takes its name from the Ministry of Justice, a nineteenth century modernist building located in the area and nearby other magnificent buildings located in Salesas neighborhood, like the beautiful church of Santa Barbara -Convent of the Salesas- and an icon of Modernist architecture, the stunning Palace de Longoria a gorgeous Art Nouveau building housing the Society of Authors.

In recent years, and due to its modernization and regeneration, Justicia district has emerged as the trendiest and hippest location in Madrid. It is one of the more sought-after districts of the capital, thanks to its high quality of living, its great location, upscale and eclectic stores, delightful streets and beautiful architecture.

The famous Chueca is part of Justicia -the neighborhood which in the mid 90s became the gay district of Madrid with hip and daring shops and jazzy nightclubs. It is a popular destination for tourists and locals attracted by its offbeat spirit and fun atmosphere. Chueca is one of Madrid’s best nightlife addresses offering many options for drinking, eating and dancing.

A mix of traditional tapas bars, trendy restaurants and bars around Plaza de Chueca, and on the roof terrace of the San Antón Market. In this market, together with the four-storey building Mercado de Barceló, boasts an endless selection of stalls with the fresh ingredients, delicatessen bars.The main shopping street is Fuencarral, a popular place to go and a tourist area.

Chueca, together with Salesas -the two Justicia neighborhoods- are a magnet for contemporary art galleries, some of them among the best in Madrid. The posh Salesas is one of the most sough-after neighborhood to live in Madrid. It extends up a series of streets, forming a fantastic shopping area where one finds multi-brand clothing stores, art galleries, as well as concept stores and gourmet shops. It is located next to Paseo de Recoletos, between Chueca and the Salamanca neighborhood. It is such a delight to get lost in streets like Barquillo, Fernando Sexto, Almirante, Argensola, Piemonte, Count of Xiquena, Orellana or Mejía Lequerica and discover all the secrets you can find in every corner.
